Earth Day celebrations at Arab Unity School, Dubai

Arab Unity School observed Earth Day within the school campus. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to generate awareness among themselves. This was done at the morning assembly where students from every section took a pledge promising to care for Mother Earth.

Staff and students came in green clothes as a symbol of solidarity with the most popular environment campaign observed all over the world.

The Kindergarten children spoke about how they would help by switching off lights, the AC and avoid littering. The students of the Primary Section recycled waste materials like yoghurt lids, cartons, corn flakes boxes to make decorative hangings and on these, messages of hope were written by the staff, parents and students which were then hung on the “Tree of Hope”. They also painted a mural depicting the beautiful colours of nature, a promise to preserve the beauty and vibrancy of earth’s bounty. The awareness campaign had begun a month ago with all classes having a save energy monitor. Lights and ACs were switched off when not required.

In addition to the special assembly the Boys’ section planted saplings in the school’s botanical garden. They also had a signature campaign upholding the pledge to make every day an Earth Day.

“Best from Waste “was the theme for the activity period for boys and girls. Some very innovative and interesting articles were made with the waste which would normally be thrown away.

A beautiful painting by the Girls’ section was unveiled and put up on the wall to remind them of their pledge.

As Helen Keller has rightfully said:

“Alone we can do so little: together we can do so much.”
