EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE " Progress lies not in enhancing what is, but in advancing toward what will be." Kahlil Gibran Progress does not stop nor does time or human development. Change deals with one issue or item at a time- when one is done, we move on to the next. But progress encompasses many spheres which are interlinked. Although it is an uphill task, it is a continuous process with a qualitative and lasting effect. At AUS we prefer to make ‘progress’ a way of life and especially so in the field of education. The phenomenal ‘change’ that one hears of or is being talked about is irrelevant when we see progress everywhere. As we look through the annals of the 36 years of AUS history we are transported back in time to 1974 and 12 students – the humble beginnings of a mighty and solid oak –the Arab Unity School. But as we fast forward to 2009, AUS has seen a robust growth in student strength to 3268. This growth is also seen in the physical facilities in computers, interactive white boards, online teaching through internet with the latest software and tremendous resource materials and books. The number of classes has increased to accommodate students and provide space for activities and specialized learning. This has also resulted in the increase of teaching and non—teaching faculty, a vital requirement to lead to progress in student learning skills and abilities. This firm foundation has been the grit, determination and commitment of my dear parents. For any institution to keep on the path of progress, necessitates a broad vision, progressive and pragmatic thinking of those at the helm. The Directors are constantly reviewing the goals, adapting to the new technologies and meeting the need of the hour by adopting a 22nd Century outlook and working ethos. Under my tutelage as Executive Director, I am hopeful and positive to offer an education that will make our students independent thinkers, build in them a spirit of empathy for fellow human beings and a volition to contribute to the well being of global society. We commend and stand by the mission and vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum in the field of education and the setting up of the KHDA. The inspection was an invaluable experience. It was an opportunity for us to interact with the experts, exchange ideas and accept the guidelines which will eventually aid us in the progress of AUS. I am fortunate but feel humbled to head a reputed school. My fervent desire is to lead the management, parents, students and my employees selflessly, with efficiency and effectiveness. Let me end quoting Winston Churchill. " Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb." Together we can make progress and march confidently into the future. Executive Director
